Game Storage Medium

Game Storage Medium

There is a variety of different methods of storing data for games and other media, and each game console developed will have to use one of these storage mediums to store and distribute there games.
Some examples can vary usually depending on the consoles time of release; if we look at later generations of consoles such as the Playstation 3, the machine boasts the usage of Blu-Ray discs.
The Blu-Ray disc is a later developement of the DVD, it uses a dual layered method which can store up to 25Gb on each side of the disc. However if we look at earlier editions of the Playstation console such as the original Playstation, we are faced with a meagure 650-700Mb worth of space on the Compact Disc's that the machine uses.

Despite these discs holding the data used for distribution of the game these discs do not hold all of the data required when running the game on the console. This is where a secondary storage medium must be in place to hold data such as saved progress. In this case we use other storage mediums such as hardrives for consoles such as Xbox and Playstation 3, or the classic memory card storage method used in machines like the Playstation 1.
